چکیده

Abstract Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) affects millions of cattle in the US annually. This study sought to identify commensal pathogens animals without clinical signs that were predictive BRD using Wisconsin Health Scoring (WHS) system. Cases healthy later diagnosed with (WHS ≥ 5.0), positive controls (PC) at time initial sampling and negative (NC) those remained throughout ≤ 4.0). Beef feedlot sampled Colorado (CO; cases = 13, NC 500, PC 488) Washington (WA; 5, 499, 506). Preweaned Holstein dairy calves from California (CA; 73, 1017, 1003) New Mexico (NM; 25, 381, 376). For each animal, mid-nasal deep pharyngeal swabs used test for nine pathogens. ANOVA testing (P< 0.05) odds ratios (OR) calculated population. In CO, bovine viral diarrhea virus (P 0.0001, OR 13.1) Histophilus somni 0.008, 4.2) would be while syncytial (BRSV; P 1.1 × 10-6, 40.8) was most WA. NM, BRSV 0.005, 5.8) also BRD. No pathogen risk CA. Prevalence higher < than suggesting incidence taken diagnosis may not reflect initiating disease. These results highlight geographical differences which should considered when managing reduce

Bovine Respiratory Disease &

Year in and year out, diseases of the respiratory system are a major cause of illness and death in cattle from 6 weeks to two years of age. Sadly, this is as true today as it was 30 years ago despite development of new and improved vaccines, new broad spectrum antibiotics, and increased fundamental knowledge as to the cause of disease. WHY? I don‟t have the answer and I doubt if anyone does. As...

Bovine Respiratory Disease

In this session we will take an evidence-based medicine approach to ancillary therapy of bovine respiratory disease, bovine toxic mastitis, bovine neonatal enteric disease, and retained placenta/metritis. The literature reviewed here is not presented as being allinclusive, but rather as a summary of many commonly cited articles on these subjects. The citations are primarily peer reviewed, but s...

Effect of bovine respiratory disease and overall pathogenic disease incidence on carcass traits.

The objective this study was to evaluate the effects of incidence of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and overall incidence of pathogenic diseases (IPD) on carcass traits. Two independent populations were used. The first population included crossbred steers (GPE7; n = 642) derived from sires of 7 Bos taurus breeds: Angus, Charolais, Gelbvieh, Hereford, Limousin, Red Angus, and Simmental. The se...

Single Pathogen Challenge with Agents of the Bovine Respiratory Disease Complex

Bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) is an important cause of mortality and morbidity in cattle; costing the dairy and beef industries millions of dollars annually, despite the use of vaccines and antibiotics. BRDC is caused by one or more of several viruses (bovine respiratory syncytial virus, bovine herpes type 1 also known as infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, and bovine viral diarrhea ...

RNA-Seq Based Transcriptional Map of Bovine Respiratory Disease Pathogen “Histophilus somni 2336”

Genome structural annotation, i.e., identification and demarcation of the boundaries for all the functional elements in a genome (e.g., genes, non-coding RNAs, proteins and regulatory elements), is a prerequisite for systems level analysis. Current genome annotation programs do not identify all of the functional elements of the genome, especially small non-coding RNAs (sRNAs). Whole genome tran...
